Monthly Programs

General club meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, 7PM at Golden Hills Elementary School. (View Google map for directions). TMBC provides educational programs for members and guests, including the students of Tehachapi High School's science classes. Expert speakers each month present educational programs on a wide variety of birding and natural history subjects. The meetings offer a great opportunity to share birding knowledge, report sightings and meet other community members with similar interests.

Need a friendly reminder? We’re all busy. And sometimes we forget important stuff, like bird club meetings. If you’d like a friendly reminder on meeting day (phone, text or email), just let Al know and we’ll get you all taken care of.

  • Tuesday, May 13, 2008 - 7PM
    H. Ross Hawkins, president of the Hummingbird Society will give a presentation on hummingbirds.

  • Saturday, June 14, 2008
TMBC annual meeting and potluck will be held at the Esten residence on "Esten Mountain" in Tehachapi.

* All programs are tentative depending on the speaker's schedule and weather conditions.

Field Trips

The Tehachapi Mountains Birding Club schedules birding field trips or walks at least once a month. Most are held on Saturday following the monthly general meeting. Scheduling and details are published in The HOOT newsletter and announced at the general meetings. For the latest details, always consult this web page. We try to go where the birds are. Therefore, the following schedule is tentative depending on the birds, availability of birding sites and weather conditions. Beginners are always welcomed!

For all trips RSVP to Angela Guy at 304-6816 or angelaguy@att.net. Remember to dress in layers and don’t forget to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, field guide and binoculars. If you need a ride contact Kerri Esten at 822-6321.

  • May 17 — Paradise Valley
Meet at the K Mart parking lot near Burger King at 7 AM

This is a great local hike. We should get to see many of our resident birds. Look for Golden Eagles, Western Wood-Peewee, Western Tanager, and MacGillivray’s Warbler. Also keep an eye out for Band-tailed Pigeon and Mountain Quail.

  • May 31 — Canebrake Ecological Reserve
Meet at the Kmart parking lot near Burger King at 6 AM

This 6900-acre California Department of Fish & Game Ecological Reserve is part of the land protecting most of the cottonwood and willow riparian forest found along the lower fourteen miles of the South Fork Kern River.  Expect Summer Tanagers, Blue Grosbeaks, and warblers.  We will have a picnic at Scodie Park when we finish.
